PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGES OF THE HOLOCAUST IN SALONICA AND GREECE THE FORGOTTEN HOLOCAUST

Photographic Images of the Holocaust in Greece, offers a rarely seen visual perspective on the destruction of the Jewish communities of Greece through a series of rare and unpublished photographs. Particular emphasis is placed on the Jewish Community of Salonica, where losses in population exceeded 96%.THE FORGOTTEN HOLOCAUST was initially presented at Yom HaShoa commemorative services in 1993 on the 50th anniversary of the deportations in Salonica.

The photographs were carefully selected and researched from numerous public, private and individual sources worldwide. Each photograph is accompanied by a detailed caption which provides a running narrative on the destruction of the Jewish communities in Greece. The overall result is a unique visual overview of the Holocaust in Greece, one that is rarely examined and often forgotten.

THE FORGOTTEN HOLOCAUST was written by Robert Bedford, and designed and prepared by Robert Bedford, Stuart Fishelson, Joe Halio and Linda Pierro of the Sephardic Historical Committee of the Foundation for the Advancement of Sephardic Studies and Culture.THE FORGOTTEN HOLOCAUST has been exhibited at numerous congregations and cultural centers throughout New York.
